Tartrate

Tartrate are the salts and esters of tartaric acid. Of the tartrates are particularly the potassium hydrogen tartrate ( cream of tartar ) and Rochelle salt of relevance. Potassium sodium tartrate in addition to copper sulfate at the Fehling's reagent test for reducing sugars. Sodium rubidium tartrate played a central role in the elucidation of the absolute configuration of enantiomerically pure molecules.

Pharmaceutical substances having a basic functional group are used as tartrates, for example, as tartaric acid salt of zolpidem.
