The Hokiklub Tartu Kalev - Välk is an Estonian ice hockey club from Tartu, which was founded in 1994 as Tartu Välk 494 and plays in the Meistriliiga. The home games of the association will be held in the jäähall Lõunakeskuse.

History

The Hokiklub Tartu Välk 494, which were established in 1994, in 1997 won the Estonian Championship their first title. The following year, the team placed in second place before 1999 and 2000, twice in a row the championship was won. In the years 2000, 2002, 2003, 2008 and 2011 the club won five more times the Estonian Championships and was 2001, 2006 and 2007 runner-up.

In addition, the club participated in the 1997 and 1998 at the discharge of the IIHF Continental Cup. In a group with teams Juniors Riga, HK Sokol Kiev and Miercurea Ciuc SC achieved a balance of each with a win, draw and one defeat. In third place in Group K of the collection was missed in the next round. The following year, the club was in a group with the opponents HK Berkut Kiev, HK Vojvodina Novi Sad and HK Red Star Belgrade earn two wins and lost a game. Thus, the team took second place in Group C and failed again a place in the next round.

After more than ten years, the club participated in the 2009/10 season again participate in a discharge of the IIHF Continental Cup. This Tartu Välk replaced the League rival Tallinn Stars, who had filed for bankruptcy before the tournament and was disbanded shortly thereafter. In a group with teams SC Energia, KS Cracovia Krakow and HK Saryarka Karaganda, the team earned a victory in extra time and lost two games.

Stadium

The club played its home games since its inception jäähall in the 600 -seat end Annelinn. In 2008, the team moved to the three years before Lõunakeskuse jäähall built a new home stadium, which also has a capacity of 600 spectators.
