Taschenbergpalais

The Taschenbergpalais in Dresden is a grand hotel of the Kempinski hotel group. The hotel's name indicates the location of the building in the " pocket mountain". It is next to Dresden Castle and directly opposite the Dresden Zwinger.

In the immediate vicinity are the Semper Opera, the Theatre Square, Hofkirche Dresden and postal course. Externally, the complex represents the lush Dresden Baroque style, even the staircase was reconstructed conservation practice, while the interior of the building is otherwise modern design.

History

The building was in the heyday of the Dresden Baroque, on the outskirts of Dresden's old town built in the early 18th century as a gift from King Augustus the Strong for his mistress Constantia von Cosel. Since its destruction in 1945, it was like the Dresden Royal Palace, with which it is connected by a bridge passage, until 1992 a ruin.

Formation

1693/94 was the Haugwitzsche house on the site of the later Taschenbergpalais. The architect Johann Friedrich Karcher built from 1705 to 1708 with the involvement of the previous buildings Taschenbergpalais as a city palace for Anna Constanze von Hoym, from 1707 Countess Cosel. After Countess Cosel had been banished in August 1713 and fell out of favor in 1716, the palace of fashion in 1715 / accordingly furnished partly oriental and was given the name "Turkish Palais ".

The building was extended in the following century and a half several times: from 1718 to 1720 led Matthew Daniel Poeppelmann and Raymond Leplat expansion and installation works for the Crown Prince by families. 1747-1750 were extensive additions added under the direction of Johann Christoph Knöffel. Under Knöffel the two sandstone wells were installed at the entrance. Shown are a Triton and Nereid, and a shell-work and putting. In 1990 the fountain was restored and placed copies. Having already from 1756 to 1767, a further expansion of the building complex under Christian Friedrich Heinrich Julius Exner and Black has been made, further structural changes were made only in 1843 until 1848. 1854-1857 the southeast wing was built as a last expansion finally.

Destruction and Reconstruction

The only in 1934 extensively restored building in 1945 during air raids on Dresden on 13-14. February destroyed in 1945 and stayed for almost half a century ruins. After the original building, the palace as the surviving outer walls was from 1992 to 1995 using original buildings built from scratch. The reconstruction cost a total of 127.8 million euros, just for the monument fell to 13.8 million euros. In Taschenbergpalais Hotel pocket Kempinski Dresden was opened on 31 March 1995 as the first 5 -star hotel in Saxony.

Equipment

In addition to 182 rooms and 32 suites, the hotel also operates two restaurants ( Intermezzo restaurant in Hotel, Restaurant Lesage in the Transparent Factory of Volkswagen ), a bistro (Palais Bistro ) and a bar (Karl May Bar ). The café vestibule, which is located next to the stairs by the Baroque architect Poeppelmann, is one of the two cafes. In addition, a large spa area with swimming pool, solarium and sauna, fitness center and beauty farm and various massage treatments exist.

Awards

The hotel was one of the Leading Hotels of the World, but broke up in July 2009 by the marketing group.

In 1995 it was voted the best new hotel in Germany. 2008, it was voted on of the top international fourth best German Hotel 500 list of hotels. The hotel pocket Kempinski Dresden won the ranking of the "Best Business Hotels in Germany" of the financial magazine € uro 2nd place behind the Ritz- Carlton Berlin. The jury of the Great gourmet price Saxony chose chef Thorsten Bubolz from the gourmet restaurant " Lesage " as the year's 2009.

Famous guests

On 4 June 2009, the 44th President of the United States of America Barack Obama stayed during a visit in Central Germany, which led him to Dresden and in the former concentration camp Buchenwald near Weimar in Thuringia, for one night at NH Dresden.

Besides well-known political figures such as Horst Köhler, Vladimir Putin, Jacques Chirac, Helmut Schmidt and Gerhard Schröder, are members of the nobility as Margrethe II, Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands, Prince Albert II of Monaco and many artists like Udo Jürgens, Günter Grass, Dieter Bohlen, Thomas Gottschalk, Karl Lagerfeld and Anna Netrebko Yuryevna entered in the guest book.
