1st generation

Tata Mobile 207DI

The Tata Mobile 206 was introduced in 1988, the Tata 207DI came in 2002.

2005 Tata TL 4x4 was unveiled for the Indian market. He was Tata's first offering in the pickup lifestyle segment ( and the second in India). These were an upgraded version of the 207DI, who was popular with commercial transport companies.

He had a naturally aspirated diesel with 1948 cc, the (67 kW) delivered 91 bhp. There were several special features, such as frontal protection system, roll cage, power steering, air conditioning and electric windows. The pickups gave it with single and double cabin. The Tata Telco Line was the amplified version. In some countries, a 2.0-liter R4 turbo diesel engine from Toyota was installed, which offered more power. The TL was the cost pickup in its class, much cheaper than the Toyota Hilux and the Ford Ranger.

2nd generation

Tata Xenon

A revised TL was introduced at the 2006 Motor Show in Bologna. The end of 2007, he appeared as Tata Xenon. The Xenon is the newly developed 2.2 -liter R4- DICOR turbo diesel engine with 140 bhp (103 kW) driven performance. There is also a version with double cab appear, at first but only for selected markets. The same platform is also used for the Tata Sumo Grande.

The car is a joint venture agreement built in Thailand Thonburi in the frame and in Argentina by Fiat. Fiat's first pickup with separate frame has the same design as the xenon and is called Fiat Terra. The Xenon XT, a lifestyle pickup with four doors and five seats was introduced in 2009. The vehicle combines an elegant appearance on the road with the offraod properties of a 4x4. In Europe, particularly in Spain and Italy, the xenon was well received.

Background

SPRINT was the code name of the project for the development of Tata's first pick for the whole world. Most pickup truck markets in the world ( excluding the U.S. ) are dominated by the major Japanese automakers such as Toyota, Isuzu, Mitsubishi and Nissan. As initiated by Tata study shows there is a good possibility for the TL to conquer a significant part of this market. Therefore, Tata left a deeper market study in Europe, the Middle East, South Africa, Thailand, Australia, Latin America, etc. create, to find out what requirements these markets to the new pickup.

Aggressive development timelines

For the development of a new product line is expected to 36 to 50 months. It is said that only Toyota would have reached so far 18 months. However, the name SPRINT indicates already that you can put especially on a short development period value. The team worked around the clock, turned the principle of " concurrent development " and distributed the work in nine different countries to respect the limit and make key activities run in parallel. The team delivered in just 17 months, his work - from the first sketches in December 2005 to the start of production in May 2007.

Presentations and automotive exhibitions

At the Motor Show in Bologna in December 2006, the xenon was first shown to the public. In March 2007, the prototype also appeared at the Geneva Motor Show. Until now, the xenon in 14 countries across Europe, the Middle East, Latin America, Africa and Southeast Asia was shown.

The Xenon is available with three different cabs, regular and extended cab and crew cab, each with left or right hand steering. There are two engines to choose from - the 2.2 l and 3.0 l; there are two- or four-wheel drive and two interior colors - dark gray and beige.
