Tatiana of Rome

Tatiana of Rome (* 222-235 in Rome; † before 250 in Rome) was a virgin and martyr of the 3rd century.

Tatjana was born according to tradition, at the time of the Emperor Severus Alexander in Rome, her father had been appointed for the third time consul. Tatjana was consecrated virgin of the Roman Church. Because of their Christian profession, she was the Emperor, who was going hard against converts presented. Later, her hair was cut off and she was tortured cruelly. According to tradition, they tried in vain to Tatjana burn at the stake and throw it to the lions, so that they finally beheaded.

Tatjana is venerated in the Catholic and Orthodox Church as saints; her feast day is January 12. From the 7th to the 15th century there was in the " fourth region" in Rome at the Quirinal, a small church, which was dedicated to her. The Icons of their attributes are the shaved head and the lion.
