Tatra T5C5

The tramcars Tatra T5C5 is a produced by the Czechoslovak manufacturer Tatra CKD vehicle series of large-capacity railcars, which was developed especially for the network of the Budapest tram. Hungary was to the USSR, East Germany, Romania, Yugoslavia and Egypt, another buyer of Tatra tramcars.

Development

1978 produced two prototypes of the type T5C5 with the numbers 4000 and 4001, who came to test to Prague and Budapest were passed on in the same year. The T5C5 differs in construction from all other previously developed Tatra cars. He has instead of an accelerator or a thyristor control a multi-stage cam switch, the control is not as previously by a pedal, but by a hand lever. The cars have a driver's cab and three doors per car side. Thus, uni-directional or bi-directional trains can be formed in Control with up to three units.

Use

The T5C5 is in Budapest in use. There were delivered 1978-1984 322 vehicles to Budapest. There they received the numbers 4000 - 4171 and 4200 - 4349th

Modernization

Once the vehicles are in use for about 20 years, the transport company began in Budapest with the modernization of the first 80 vehicles. The cars were:

  • An IGBT chopper control
  • A matrix destination display
  • A new interior design in yellow colors
  • A new paver operator's console

The modernization of the first two cars, which now receive the new type designation T5C5K were completed in late November 2002 in Budapest main workshop Fehér út.
