Tatranská Lomnica

Tatranská Lomnica ( German Lomnica, Hungarian Tátralomnic ) is a village in the town of Vysoke Tatry with 2,000 inhabitants and is located 850 m above sea level. NN. The place is the tourist center of Slovakia's High Tatras. There is the seat of the National Park Service and the associated nationally known TANAP Museum.

History

The town was founded in 1892. Tatranská Lomnica is located in the area of Velka Lomnica ( Großlomnitz ), the first public health resort in the High Tatras. Among other things, the hotel Lomnica and Praha date from this period. Since 1912, the place is the end of the Tatra Electric Railway from Poprad. In 1940, the first cable car to the top Lomnitzer. By 1960, the town belonged to the municipality of Stary Smokovec and was up to its annexation to Vysoke Tatry independently.

Tourism

From Tatranská Lomnica a cable car to Skalnaté Pleso ( Steinbachsee ) leads to an altitude of 1,750 m. There is the Tatra Observatory. From there another cable car to Lomnický stit ( Lomnitzer tip), 2632 m, and a chairlift to Lomnický Hreben ( Lomnitzer saddle), 2200m. With the Tatra train a large number of day trippers come to Tatranská Lomnica. The town is the starting point for mountain walks and cable car rides.
