The Valle track was a 15.4 km long standard gauge branch line in South Tyrol. She led from the railway station located at the Pusteria Brunico in the Valle Valley.

Route

The railway line followed immediately after leaving the station Brunecker the course of the Ahr, and followed this up Campo Tures, the main town in the valley. Intermediate stations there were in St. Georgen near Brunico, Gais, Ottone, Molini di Tures and in Kematen.

Thanks to the optimal conditions for railway construction could no longer require expensive engineering structures. Only two bridges had to be built specifically for the Valle train: in Ottone on the Ahr and in Molini di Tures on the Mühlwalder Bach.

History

The railway was built to link the main town of Campo Tures to the European railway network. The design has been made ​​by the famous Tyrolean railway planners Josef Riehl and Joseph Beikircher ( one of the concessionaires ). About 300 workers were from July 1907 busy building. The opening of the 15.4 km long, licensed on April 29, 1908 railway line was on 20 July 1908. A day later, the official operation started.

Still in the opening month was applied for the grant of preliminary work for the extension of the railway from sand to Steinhaus ( Cadipietra ).

Operation

The web was electrically powered with 800 V direct current, whereby it was one of the earliest electrically operated railways Old Austria. For the operation of the existing hydropower in the valley of the Ahrnbachs from the power company Mühlbach near Gais was utilized.

The car park of Valle train consisted of two two-axle railcar with two drive motors 48 kW and two biaxial sidecar. The engines and trailers were built by the Graz wagon factory.

After the single-track line was built without Dodge, train crossings were not possible on the track. The trip took about 50 minutes for one direction. Daily six pairs of trains were performed.

Closure

Operation with the end of 31 January 1957 has been set on the basis of the emerging automotive traffic. The carriage of passengers was taken up today by buses.

Present and future

Some of the route was converted to a bike path. Only a few more testimonies of former railway traffic are still preserved.
