Taughannock Falls State Park

In Taughannock Falls State Park are waterfalls, Taughannock Falls, the main attraction. The park is located in Tompkins County in the Finger Lakes region of central New York, between Trumansburg ( Ulysses Township ) and Ithaca. The Taughannock Falls are (ft 215) with a height of 66 m, the highest free-falling waterfalls east of the Rocky Mountains. The Taughannock Falls are about 8 feet higher than Niagara Falls. The falls are at the end of Taughannock Falls gorge, up to 85 m (300 ft) rises vertically.

Location

The falls are located on the western shore of Cayuga Lake near Ithaca, NY.

Attractions

  • Taughannock is a year-round usable, tourist developed area. The falls and the gorge form a natural amphitheater, which is filled with the spray of the falls. Around the gorge there are many hiking trails, some of which lead to the lower end, and partly to the upper end of the gorge.
  • Slightly removed from the cases can swim in the river Taughannock Creek and in cayuga lake.
