Taupe

Taupe refers to a dark gray color that goes to gray and brown with color cast. Pantone and RGB hexadecimal system, both describe the color as a warm dark gray.

The term " taupe ", however, is out of focus in the application. Different shades that tend to gray - brown, are accompanied by the words " taupe " or simply as " taupe ". Such sounds are in fashion, in interior design, widely used in industrial design and graphic design. However, designers and artists are often at odds, which is to be designated as " taupe ". A single, universally accepted definition does not exist.

Conceptual history

The word " taupe " derives from the Latin name for the European Mole ( Talpa europaea). In the German -speaking world, the word is pronounced French, so with a long O in IPA [to ː p]. However, the English version [ toʊp ] is utilized.

Originally, the color referred only to the (average color) of the French mole. As with the colors pink or lavender, the term (in the case of taupe in the early 1940s ) has been extended to a wide range of different shades. After this term had established itself as a color name, the splitting was due, different fur colors of the moles do not explain the whole peaked in the 2010s color spectrum.
