Taurini

The Taurini (Latin Taurini ) were a Ligurian- Celtic tribe of the southern edge of the Alps in Italy, had his residence in the territory of present-day Piedmont. The tribe's name is still in the condition of the city of Turin (Latin Castra only Taurinorum, then Iulia Augusta Taurinorum, founded in 27 BC, as Colonia with Roman citizenship ).

At the time of Hannibal's invasion of Italy (218 BC) the Taurini were enemies with the Insubres and therefore did not want to join the Carthaginian troops ( Polybius, Historiai III 60). Hannibal defeated the Warriors 3800 with an army of 30-40,000 soldiers, for which he needed three days, and conquered their capital Taurasia. From anger over the loss of 11,000 men, he had almost all the prisoners to death as a warning to other peoples northern Italy.

A connection with the core Tauris, who also settled in the Po Valley by Polybius ( Historiai II 15), probably. The Taurini are said to have removed after their losing battle against the Romans as a tribal part of the Taurisci.
