Tayabas

Tayabas City has a Philippine component city in the province of Quezon, in the administrative region IV, Calabarzon. It has 91 428 inhabitants ( census of 1 May 2010 ) living in 66 barangays. Classified as a major city in the sixth income class in the Philippines.

Geography

The city center is about 89 km southeast of the capital of the Philippines, Manila, at the foot of Mount Banahaw. Your neighboring municipalities are Lucban in the north, Pagbilao in the southeast, Sariaya to the west and Lucena City in the south. The topography of the city is characterized by flatlands, juice hilly and mountainous landscapes. Parts of the Mounts Banahaw - San Cristobal National Park and the Quezon National Park situated on the territory of the city.

Tayabas City is connected via the Maharlika Highway to the Bicol region and the capital region of Metro Manila.

History

The history of the city began 1571/72, when the Juan de Salcedo explored the Konquistator today Quezon province and subjugated. In 1578 the Franciscans Juan de Plasencia and Diego de Oropesa founded the city Tabayas and built the first church of the city, whose place today Basilica of St. Michael the Archangel stands.

Until March 12, 1901 Tayabas was the seat of the provincial government, then this was moved to Lucena. The title of a major city was Tayabas awarded on July 14, 2007.
