Tazovsky (rural locality)

Tasowski (Russian Тазовский ) is an urban-type settlement in the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug ( Russia) ( October 14, 2010 status ) with 6793 inhabitants.

Geography

The settlement is located in the northern part of the West Siberian lowland about 540 km due east of the Republic capital Salechard and 180 km north-northeast of the city of Novy Urengoy. It is located on the left bank of the leftmost main arm of the river Tas, which forms a wide delta about 15 km there, about 10 km upstream of its confluence with the Tasbusen.

Tasowski is the administrative center of the homonymous Rajons Tasowski.

History

The town was founded in 1883 as a trading post for trade with the nomadic Nenets population. The Nenets name Chalmer - Sede, the place was the first stands for hill of the dead, once occupied by a Nenets cemetery nearby. In 1949 he was named Tasowskoje, the Russian adjective form of the name River Tas.

From the 1960s, the place the basis for the development of the north-eastern part of the region was developed for the oil and gas industry. 1964, the status of an urban-type settlement was awarded under the present form of the name.

Culture and sights

In Tasowski exists since 1993 (since 2005 in a new building) the Rajon Heritage Museum, which is dedicated mainly to the culture of the Nenets and miscellaneous items and crafts shows. On another issue is the beginning of the Russian development of this part of Siberia in the 17th century with the 200 km tasaufwärts town Mangaseya.

In Tasowski there is a local television station; it appears the Rajonzeitung Sowetskoje Sapoljarje (, Soviet Trans polar region ').

Economy and infrastructure

Tasowski is logistical center for the exploration and exploitation of petroleum, natural gas and gas condensate deposits of the northeastern part of the Autonomous Okrug, on the Tas Peninsula and Gydan Peninsula, in particular by Gazprom and Lukoil. In addition to fishing and reindeer husbandry operated in the surrounding area, mainly by the Nenets population.

North West of the town with an airport for regional transport (ICAO - code USDT ). A year-round navigable port on the Russian road network does not exist, there are roads to the natural gas deposits in the area. In the frost period Tasowski is accessible from Urengoy, also located in the vicinity with Korottschajewo the nearest train station.
