Te Paepae o Aotea
Te paepae o Aotea, even Volkner Rocks (after Carl Sylvius Völkner ), are a group of andesite rock pinnacles 5.2 km north-west of Whakaari / White Iceland in New Zealand 's Bay of Plenty. They have a total area of approximately 1.5 hectares and reach a height of 113 m above sea level. They are separated by White Iceland by up to 200 m deep sea.
The volcanic islands are part of the Taupo Volcanic Zone.
The area surrounding the islands was declared a protected area in 2006. It is popular because of the good visibility of 35-40 m, the picturesque backdrop and the sea creatures with scuba divers.
