Ted Fujita

Tetsuya Theodore Fujita (Japanese藤田 哲 也, Tetsuya Fujita, born October 23, 1920 in Kitakyushu, † November 19, 1998 in Chicago) was a major storm researcher of the 20th century. Significant portions of the current meteorological state of knowledge on severe thunderstorms, tornadoes, and tropical cyclones go back to doing it. He is also the discoverer of downbursts and is known in particular as regards the Fujita scale, which sets the damage of a tornado in relation with the wind speed. With acquaintances and also in the media it has the the nickname " Mr. Tornado " introduced.

He taught at the University of Chicago.
