Teemu Tainio ( born November 17, 1979 in Tornio ) is a Finnish football player at the position of midfielder.

Career

Association

Tainio, who was active in Finland for TP -47 Tornio and FC Haka, changed the age of 18 to France for AJ Auxerre. In eight years it brought the midfielder there on 148 missions and scored 14 goals. However, he was repeatedly thrown back by injuries. 2003 and 2005 he won the French Cup with Auxerre, but was not used in both finals.

Teemu Tainio 2005 signed a dated up to 2008 contract with the English Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur. For the season 2008/ 09 he moved free transfer to Sunderland AFC. On 1 September 2009 it was announced that Teemu Tainio is borrowed for the rest of the season to the first division club Birmingham City.

On August 31, 2010, AFC Sunderland broke up his contract. On the same day Tainio signed a contract for one year in the Dutch first division club AFC Ajax. 11 September 2010 he had his first deployment. In the match against Willem II Tilburg he came on in the 85th minute. In March 2011, he accepted an offer from the New York Red Bulls.

After his contract was not renewed in late 2012, moved Tainio beginning in January 2013 returned to his homeland and signed a two-year contract until the end of December 2014 when record champions HJK Helsinki.

National

Tainio completed for the Finnish national team since his debut in 1998 against Cyprus 51 games and scored six goals ( as at 23 July 2010).
