Tehiya

Techija ( תחיה, resuscitation ) was a right-wing national-religious party in Israel that existed from 1979 to 1992. Founder of the party was Geula Cohen.

Name

Originally, this party was known as Banai ( בנא"י ), acronym for the Federation of believers in the land of Israel ( ברית נאמני ארץ ישראל ) The acronym is composed of the initial letters of the.:

  • Näämanaji (Hebrew: נֶאֱמָנַי )
  • Eretz (Hebrew: אֶרֶץ )
  • Israel (Hebrew: יִשְׂרָאֵל )

Then it was Techija - Bnai ( תחייה - בנא"י ) called finally just Techija.

Background

The party was founded in 1979 as a response to the peace treaty with Egypt. The members of this party refused Egypt return the Sinai Peninsula again. One of the founders of the party was Moshe Shamir, who was since 1967 a member of the Movement for Greater Israel, whose aim was to annex the conquered in the Six Day war zones. More was a founding member of the military and physicist Yuval Ne'eman.
