TelefériQo

The Telefériqo (of teleférico and Quito ) is a commissioned in 2005 aerial cableway in Quito, Ecuador. It leads from the right on the outskirts situated at about 2950 m altitude valley station to a Cruz Loma hill mentioned in a little more than 4000 meters above sea level on the east side of the Pichincha volcano. She was the highest mountain station in the world at the opening.

The cable car has tourist primarily importance. The base station is located in a park called Vulqano amusement park, the hill station is surrounded by restaurants and souvenir shops. It is also the starting point of - apart from the thin air and rapid weather changes - simple staircase on Rucu Pichincha ( 4698 m) at a distance ( distance) of about 4.5 km and a mountain bike descent back to Quito. From the top station you also have a view of the snow-capped volcanoes Cotopaxi, Cayambe and Antisana and many other mountains.

The Telefériqo is a gondola, which is designed as a detachable single with 18 gondolas each with 6 places. There are another 9 gondolas available for different purposes. At the gondolas there is support for mountain bikes. The web has a speed of about 5 m / s (18 km / h).

It was built on behalf of a trust, which was financed by donations from the local business owners and the general public. The city provided the land at disposal and will receive after 25 years of ownership of the system.
