Teleiopsis bagriotella is a butterfly (moth ) from the family of Palpenmotten ( Gelechiidae ).

Features

The moths reach a wingspan of 17-22 mm and resemble Teleiopsis diffinis. However, the front wings are darker and have a dark gray-brown color. The bright areas in the legs are often colored pink. Regarding the variability resemble the butterflies T. diffinis, the forms are but darker or blackish. Occasionally bright areas of the labial palps are pink. The variability depends to some extent on the geographical location and appears to correlate well with geology at the discovery site.

Occurrence

Teleiopsis bagriotella is native to the mountains of Europe, the range extends from Portugal and Spain to Greece. In the north it extends to the Tatras. Outside Europe, there is evidence from Turkey. The species is found at altitudes of 1,200 to 3,000 meters.

Way of life

The larvae live in Alpine sorrel ( Oxyria digyna ) where they live in tubular cocoons.

Flight times and caterpillars

The moths fly from June to October, they are often found in artificial light sources. The larvae live in early July.
