Steneosaurus bollensis from the Posidonia Shale of wood grubs, Southern Germany

  • Europe
  • North America

The Teleosauridae were a group of marine crocodiles that lived from the Lower to the Upper Jurassic. They were probably amphibious fish and Belemnitenjäger in shallow, coastal marine regions and estuaries.

Features

Your nose was similar to that of today's gavials, greatly elongated, narrow and filled with sharp alternately intermeshing teeth. The head was flat. Teleosauridae are characteristic of the short front legs reach only half the length of the rear legs. Shoulder and pelvic girdles are compared with those of terrestrial crocodiles only slightly modified. In contrast to its sister group the Metriorhynchidae the Teleosauridae also retained the strong rear armor.
