Telesilla

Tele Silla (Greek Τελἐσιλλα ) from Argos was Greek poet of the first half of the 5th century BC

Only a few verses of their seals remain intact. The meter used by it ( acephalous Glykoneus ) was named after her Telesilleion.

Plutarch tells citing Socrates of Argos, Telesilla have, as the Spartans 510 BC invaded Argos and the men of the city were defeated, called the women to battle, armed them, and at their head the run of Cleomenes and Demaratos Spartans defeated.

In her honor and in memory of this battle was erected in the temple of Aphrodite at Argos a statue. Also at this event, the festival of Hybristika to remember in Argos, in which men wore women's clothing and men's clothing women.
