Telgte

Telgte ( pronunciation: [ tɛlçtə ] ) ( Low German Teegte ) is a town in the district of Warendorf in Münster (North Rhine -Westphalia). Telgte is located about twelve kilometers east of Münster on the Ems. The city is known as a place of pilgrimage ( great pilgrimage from Osnabrueck to Telgte - Telgter pilgrimage ) and by a narrative of Günter Grass ( The meeting in Telgte ).

Districts

Telgte divided into the core city as well as the two parts of the city Westbevern village and Westbevern - Vadrup.

Westbevern ( Population: about 4000; Area: 24.46 km ²) was until 1974 an independent community managed with the parts of the village, Vadrup and Brock ( Brock has been part of local government reform to the community Greven ). History

Even in the post-Roman period, the region was inhabited by Telgte of strains of Saxony. In the course of Saxony mission of Charlemagne, this area was Christianized. Ludger, first bishop of Münster, let build a church in Telgte. This Urpfarrkirche was probably a timber.

13 December 2009 Dietrich Meendermann was voted out as mayor because he only 49.8 percent of the vote in the re-run election. Culture and sights

Telgte is nationally known for the Nativity Museum, the Nativity market with great jumping competition, the every September attracts around 40,000 visitors, as well as the Telgter pilgrimage, the annual pilgrimage from Osnabrueck to Telgte. It is one of the largest in Germany with about 8,000 pilgrims regularly. Every year, a total of up to 150,000 pilgrims to Telgte.
