Tell-tale (automotive)

Indicator light is the name of a light-emitting display element or signal informing about the status of the monitored device. The scope extends from virtually every electrical device in the home ( stove, dishwasher, etc.) on the computer technology ( screen), the industry and plant engineering ( power plant control center ) to vehicle technology ( charging indicator light for the battery ).

In the motor vehicle warning lights are used to inform the driver about the technical condition of the vehicle or its systems. The lights are typically in the instrument cluster, sometimes located elsewhere in the dashboard. Indicator lights are used, inter alia, to indicate the switching status of resources (eg, turn signals, high beam). Warning lights they are also called, if they are to inform the driver while driving on a malfunction of the vehicle. When the ignition, the warning lights are switched on for a few seconds.
