Tell Uqair

Tell Uqair is the modern name of an archaeological site in present-day Iraq. The town is located north-west of Nippur.

In iraqischen excavations were found the remains of a settlement of Obed. The place is of special importance, since a temple on a platform of ( around 3000 BC ) dated to the Jemdet Nasr period, were excavated. In the construction of well -preserved remains of wall paintings found. There are paintings of leopards and lions, and there was an ornamentation that is reminiscent of the pin mosaics of Uruk. The paintings were so well preserved because the temple abandoned in later times and an even higher platform was built. For the temple premises were filled with bricks, which are then protected the paintings.
