Temple of Antoninus and Faustina

The Temple of Antoninus and Faustina is an ancient building in Rome. He stands on the northern edge of the Roman Forum and is one of the best preserved ancient temple in Rome.

Emperor Antoninus Pius was the temple built in 141 AD for his deceased and deified wife Faustina. After his death in 161, the temple was also dedicated to him. The facade of the temple is dominated by six 17 meter high columns of cipollino marble, two more columns there are on the sides. The cella is provided with a relief frieze of griffins and plant ornaments.

In the 11th century the temple was converted into the church of San Lorenzo in Miranda, whereby the temple remained.
