The Choral Temple ( also choral synagogue or Choral Synagogue, Romanian Templul Coral ) is a synagogue in III. Sector on the Strada Sfânta Vineri 9 in Bucharest. With 300 places for men and women, it is the largest synagogue in Romania.

History

The synagogue was built according to the plans of the architects Enderle and Freiwald 1864 to 1867. The demolished during World War II synagogue was restored in 1945 and is now back to the Jewish community as a prayer house. 2004, the building was taken under the Classification Code B-II - mA - 19672 to the list of listed buildings.

Description

Modelled on the Leopoldstadt Temple in Vienna, who served a number of European synagogues in oriental style as a model. Examples include the Zagreb Synagogue, the Spanish Synagogue in Prague and the Tempel Synagogue in Krakow.
