Tengboche

Tengboche (also Thyangboche ) is a village in the Khumbu region (municipality Khumjung, Solukhumbu district ) in Nepal. It lies at the foot of the northern slope of Thamserku at an altitude of 3,860 meters.

The Buddhist monastery of Tengboche is the most important cultural and religious center of the Khumbu. It was built in 1923, in 1989 severely damaged by fire and then rebuilt. The monastery has the largest temple, called Gompa, the region. The end of October / beginning of November it hosts the Mani Rimbu Dance Festival.
