Tenor drum

(Also called tenor drum, quad or multi- toms) A Quint is a percussion instrument that is higher than a bass drum is pitched and of several different high-pitched drums ( toms) exists.

A tenor is a medium sized tuned percussion instrument that has the same coat size as a snare. The drum has been used under different names of composers since the mid-19th century. It was set up by the composer Benjamin Britten and William Walton in scene especially in the 20th century.

Use

Tenor drums are as Marching Percussion instrument used, which are commonly played in groups of several people. The size allows 4-6 toms can be carried by one person, thereby simultaneously play multiple runs or melodies. In general, there are four large drums which are usually either 8, 10, 12 and 13 inches in diameter or a diameter of 10, have 12, 13 and 14 inches. In addition, one or two small drums can be used, they usually measure 6 or 8 inches and are mainly used for accents. The small attached in the middle Toms (also called Spock ) are usually as high as it is tightened to achieve maximum impact.

Techniques

Various playing techniques such as sweeps or intersections with the hand, allow a wide variety of rhythmic and melodic figures that are possible on tenors. The skins, which are usually played with mallets or drumsticks, are played near the edge of the head. This allows the optimum resonance and tone of the drum. It also allows less movement of the arm from one side to the other.

When is struck simultaneously with the stick top coat and with the stick shaft of the clamping ring, called this a rim shot. This usually loud tone sounds metallic. A rim shot is usually used as an accent on the Spock, but can also be used on the other toms.
