Tenryū-ji

Tenryu -ji (Japanese天龙寺) is a Buddhist temple in the northwest of the Japanese city of Kyoto in the city district Ukyo.

It was erected in 1339 on the old residence of the Kameyama tennō under the guidance of Musō Soseki and with the support of the Shogun Ashikaga Takauji in order to appease the spirit of the late Go- Daigo- tennō. The Tenryu -ji is considered the first of the Five Great Zen temple of the Rinzai shū in Kyoto and was in the Japanese Middle Ages, one of Gozan.

Behind the main hall ( hojo ) is the Sogenchi Garden, the Muso Kokushi, a masterpiece of landscape art in the 14th century in the style of chisenkaiyu - shiki (about: walk ) docked and preserved almost exactly as in the first days remained is.

In 1994, the Tenryu- ji was appointed along with other ancient buildings in Kyoto UNESCO World Heritage Site Historic Kyoto (Kyoto, Uji and Otsu Cities ).
