Tephrocactus bonnieae

Maihueniopsis bonnieae

Maihueniopsis bonnieae is a plant of the genus Maihueniopsis from the cactus family ( Cactaceae ).

Description

Maihueniopsis bonnieae grows as a small Geophyt and reached a diameter of up to 15 centimeters. The thick taproot is branched and formed inverted conical. The inverted conical, spherical or cylindrical drive segments are fused festfleischig and wide at the base. They are blue green when young shoots and stain later ashen. The segments are 1.2 to 2.5 centimeters in diameter and are low, flat and occupied by separate furrows with cusps. The small and circular areoles bear 9-20 snug thorns. You are radiating and stained more or less pink to dark. Later, the spines are white or gray. They reach a length of 0.1 to 0.4 centimeters.

The pink white to light pink flowers reach a diameter of 3 to 4 centimeters. The Perikarpell has few areoles and is either naked or wearing at the top of a few bristle-like spines, which are up to 0.3 inches long. The gyro- shaped to broadly obovate fruits are thin-walled, soft fleshy and dries. They are 1 to 1.5 inches long.

Systematics, distribution and hazard

Maihueniopsis bonnieae is widespread in northern Argentina in the province of Catamarca and there in the department Tinogasta on dry gravel slopes and levels at altitudes from 2000 to 2500 meters.

The first description was in 1997 as Puna bonnieae by David J. Ferguson and Roberto Kiesling Edward Frederick Anderson presented the type 1999 in the genus Maihueniopsis.

Due to the difficulties in the genus systematics various recombinations have occurred even with this kind in the past. The following terms are also considered as synonyms:

  • Opuntia bonnieae ( DJFerguson & R.Kiesling ) Halda & Janeba (1999)
  • Tephrocactus bonnieae ( DJFerguson & R.Kiesling ) Stuppy (2001)

Maihueniopsis bonnieae is on the Red List of Threatened Species IUCN as ' Endangered ( EN )', ie as threatened, classified.
