Terek, Kabardino-Balkar Republic
Terek (Russian Терек, Kabardino Тэрч / Tartsch ) is a city in the southern Russian republic of Kabardino -Balkaria with 19,170 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ).
Geography
The city is situated on the northern edge of the Greater Caucasus about 60 km east of the Republic capital Nalchik Terek river right of the same name.
Terek is the administrative center of the homonymous Rajons.
The city is located on the 1875 eröffneteten, today electrified main line of the North Caucasus Railway ( Rostov-on- Don ) Prochladny - Vladikavkaz ( station Murtasowo, 1970 route km from Moscow).
History
1875 was the construction of the railway to Vladikavkaz, the tiny station settlement Murtasowo. 1920 state began with the establishment of an administrative center for the surrounding, then Small Kabardei ( Malaya Kabarda ) said territory. The new settlement was named after the river, in 1945 the status of an urban-type settlement and 1967, the city law.
