Terentian

Terentianus († September 1 118? Todi ) was a bishop and martyr.

Terentianus to have held office as the first bishop of Todi, as it Laetianus, the proconsul of Tuscany under Emperor Hadrian, to arrest and to torture. According to legend, this was the Terentianus the tongue was cut off, however, he had still spoken and known his faith while Laetianus was silent. In addition Terentianus 've made to see before his execution a blind Temple of Jupiter servant named Flaccus and was then beheaded, together with this. The following night, then his body from a Laurentia and a priest Exuperanus was salvaged and eight miles farther in today's San Terenziano (village of Gualdo Cattaneo ) were buried. Terentianus ' relics are venerated but also in the church of San Terenziano al Monte in Capranica at Viterbo, where the bones of the saint said to have been transferred in 1260. Since the Passio cited unhistorical edicts of Hadrian, the authenticity of martyrdom in the year 118 is questionable. Maybe Terentianus has lived in the 4th century and the legend was predated to give the diocese of Todi a more venerable age.

Terentianus is the first time in a Passio of the 6th century. mentioned.

Terentianus is venerated as a saint. His feast day is September 1.
