Teresa Hsu Chih

Teresa Hsu Chih (Chinese:许哲; * July 7, 1898 in Shantou, † December 7, 2011 in Singapore) was a social worker. She had become known as Singapore's Mother Teresa in recognition of their active lifelong dedication for the help of old and destitute people.

Life and work

The retired nurse was the founder of the nonprofit "from- heart -to- heart service" ( Heart to Heart service ) and the "House for the elderly and the sick " ( Home for the Aged Sick ), one of the first accommodation for elderly and sick people in Singapore. She was a social worker in China and Paraguay and was a nurse in England, before returning to Singapore to start similar non-profit support services since 1961. Even in retirement she was still actively involved in charitable work. She had spent almost their entire savings for offering poor and elderly people food and shelter. They even used a simple and humble lifestyle. In 2005 she was awarded by the Government of Singapore the "Award for special recognition " ( Special Recognition Award) as a token of appreciation for their contribution to the country.

The claiming of their date of birth and reached age is undoubtedly fraught and was never independently verified.
