Termunten

Termunten is a Dutch seaside town with less than 1,000 inhabitants in the province of Groningen.

The village is located about 8 kilometers southeast of the town of Delfzijl and 30 kilometers northeast of Groningen at the mouth of the Ems to the North Sea. To the east of the village lies the Dollard, which is separated by the lying northeast of Termunten Peninsula Punt van bow of the Ems estuary. The formerly independent municipality belongs since 1990 to the greater community of Delfzijl.

Church of Termunten

Located in the center on a hill ( mound ), the Church of Termunten was built in 1250. The mighty raised construction of brick masonry rises far above the dikes and polders of time. The raised side walls are strong ( vortretendes masonry) divided by pilasters and long windows. Note the framed with sandstone round light openings at the bottom. The church has no side portals, but in the adjoining bell tower of the central west entrance. Also, remains of walls are available in the façade area that once formed the wings, but no longer exist today.

Termunterzijl

The Siel ( Dutch: Zijl ) Termunten located in the district Termunterzijl, which was also the name of the district. Both districts go practical with their settlements into one another. In Termunterzijl the restored old Dredge is ( dike sluice ) from the late 18th century. The Sielbau consists mostly of brick. The upper front of the building, so the bridge crossing is provided with sandstone ornaments and inscriptions. The new sewer is located about 150 meters from the old sluice, seaward, away. Is started up in the port of Termunterzijl of pleasure boats and smaller cargo ships.
