Terry Davis (politician)

Terry Davis CMG ( born January 5, 1938 in Stourbridge, United Kingdom ) is a British politician and manager who was from 2004 to 2009 Secretary General of the Council of Europe.

Born in Stourbridge Terry Davis expressed the British Labour Party about 28 years for the Birmingham Hodge Hill constituency in Parliament. He also worked as a manager in the English automotive industry. From 1992 he acted as a member of the British delegation to the interests of the United Kingdom within the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.

On 1 September 2004 he was elected at the regular election to succeed Walter Schwimmer as Secretary General of the Council of Europe, after he had prevailed with 157 to 91 votes against the incumbent and the Estonian Foreign Minister Kristiina Ojuland.
