Terry Paine

Terence " Terry " Lionel Paine ( born March 23, 1939 in Winchester, Hampshire, England ) is a former English footballer. He holds the record for most appearances for Southampton FC.

Paine joined at the age of fifteen, his hometown club Winchester City on. After a little more than a year, he completed sample workouts at clubs such as FC Portsmouth and Arsenal. Arsenal wanted the 16 -year-old Paine, who was working at that time and in the British railway commit, and sent him the contract papers. However, these documents did not reach the receiver and after a work colleague informed Paines the then-coach of FC Southampton Ted Bates about the capabilities of talent, he signed an amateur contract there.

Shortly before his 18th birthday, debuted Paine for Southampton in the game against FC Brentford. In 1984, Paine emigrated to South Africa in 1988 and returned to England, where he was assistant coach John Sillett at Coventry City. After two years he moved back to South Africa to work as a trainer. He also made a name for himself in the African television, where he presented the English football with former Manchester United goalkeeper Gary Bailey in the most well-known football program of the continent.

Because of his contribution to the English football Paine in 1977 awarded the Order of the British Empire as MBE.
