Terry Woods

Terrence " Terry " Woods ( born December 4, 1947 in Dublin) is an Irish musician, specializing in mandolin and jitter. Woods became known through his involvement in groups such as The Pogues, Steeleye Span, Sweeney 's Men and Dr. Strangely Strange.

Terry learned the banjo playing at the age of 14 years and formed his first musical group The Apprentice folk in the early 1960s, together with his future wife Gay. They later shortened the name to The Prentice folk.

Terry toured in Ireland, among others, with a group name in the Orphanage participated, among others, Phil Lynott and Brian Downey, who later founded Thin Lizzy. After a few different exposures, Gay and Terry Woods formed the band. Initially, a group of several musicians, Gay and Terry later dedicated musicians only for certain albums or tours. They called themselves simply Gay and Terry Woods.

Terry and Gay could be divorced and in 1980 she founded the Irish New Wave Group Auto Da Fe. Terry settled in Ireland with his new wife Marian and her two children down. After almost 5 years of music break Frank Murray contacted him to get him to advertise the Pogues. After initial disagreements, Terry was an integral part of the band in 1985 and remained so for almost 10 years to leave the Pogues after the release of Waiting for Herb and to establish the group The Bucks with Ron Kavana.

Ron and Terry had previously co-written songs, including the title Young Ned of the Hill, which appeared on the album Pogues Peace and Love, 1989. Terry was part of Ron's Woltätigkeitsalbum For the Children, in which many Irish musicians participated (including ex- Pogue Philip Chevron). After the first album left Ron The Bucks, however the name was further used by Terry.

2001 Terry began with Dave Brown under the name The Woods band (which he already in the early 1970s took with his wife ) to produce and to go on tour. Also since 2001, Woods is touring regularly again with the Pogues.

The music of the Woods band is a mix of old and new Irish songs. The older material includes Tiel such as The Irish Rover ( The Pogues ), Waxies Dargle ( Sweeney's Men), Thousands Are Sailing ( The Pogues ), Finnegans Wake ( The Dubliners ) and The Spanish Lady, Diecey Riley and South Australia. The newer material was mainly written by Terry in a similar style.
