Tesserarius

The tesserarius (from the Latin tessera clay tablet ) was a rank in a Roman Legion. The tesserarius was the head of the guard room at Century and thus one of the assistants of the centurion.

Function

The tesserarius was responsible for all population reports and reports of his guard unit, which then went to the legate or each higher level in one of the Legion.
