TeÅŸvikiye Mosque

The Teşvikiye Mosque is a mosque, decorated in neo-baroque in Teşvikiye district of Şişli in Istanbul, Turkey.

Originally, the mosque was in 1794 by Selim III sultam. commissioned. The still existing mosque was not finished until 1854 under Sultan Abdülmecit I.. At the same time more famous buildings in Istanbul were built or renovated, the Ortaköy Mosque and the Dolmabahce Palace. The neo-baroque style was adopted from Europe. The front with its large white columns was built during a renovation in the late 19th century. The mosque and its adjacent café has become the district of Nisantasi, a distinctive meeting place. It became an important base for funerals of famous artists and politicians.

In his childhood, the Literature Nobel Prize winner Orhan Pamuk visited the mosque.
