Tetraevangelia of Ivan Alexander

The Tetraevangeliar of Tsar Ivan Alexander or The Four Gospels of Tsar Ivan Alexander ( Bulgarian Четвероевангелие на ( цар ) Иван Александър / Tschetweroewangelie na ( Tsar ) Ivan Alexandar ) is an illuminated Gospel Book, which by a monk named Simeon in the medium in Bulgarian 1355-1356 behalf of the Bulgarian Tsar Ivan Alexander was written. The manuscript is one of the most important literary art treasures of medieval Bulgarian culture and a major work of the Turnovo literary and art school.

The manuscript, which is now in the London British Library ( Add. MS 39627 ), consists of the texts of the four Gospels with the 366 ( or 352, depending on the group ) illustrates miniatures and 286, 33 x 24.3 cm, parchment leaves were summarized. Folio 74, on the Day of Judgement was shown, was stolen in the past.

In the late 14th century, the manuscript was in Moldova, where it, inter alia, the prince Alexandru cel Bun belonged. At an unknown date, the manuscript came to Athos. 1837 was the Agiou Pavlou Monastery in manuscript and was brought from there by Robert Curzon to England. In 1917, the manuscript of the British Libary has been paid.
