Texaco

Texaco was an American oil company which merged with Chevron Corporation in 2001 to ChevronTexaco.

History

After Joseph S. Cullinan and Arnold Schlaet found an oil field ( Spindletop ) in the southeast of the state of Texas, they founded in 1901 in Beaumont (Texas ) Texas Fuel Company. For several years, Texaco was the only company selling gasoline in all 50 U.S. states.

In the late 1950s Texaco Paragon Oil, bought a major fuel oil distribution company in the northeastern United States. A further expansion of the company was found in 1984 by the purchase of Getty Oil ( one of them Tidewater Petroleum ). The name and the Getty gas stations in the northeastern United States were sold to Power Test. However, this acquisition should not have consequences, as Pennzoil had entered into an unsigned, yet legally binding acquisition agreement with Getty Oil before this contract. November 19, 1985 Pennzoil won the court case, was sued Texaco in a sanction in the amount of 10.53 billion U.S. dollars. This was the largest civil litigation in U.S. history. Texaco sold then 1988 investments, including the German Texaco AG to refinance the sanctions from the civil case against Pennzoil.

1998 included Royal Dutch Shell from two joint ventures. Through collaboration with Equilon their refining and marketing in the West and Midwest of the United States were combined, the motivation and cooperation with Saudi Aramco combined refining and distribution in the eastern United States and the Gulf Coast. On 10 October 2000, Texaco bought the patents for the manufacture of NiMH batteries, which were used for the production of electric vehicles like the EV1 and the RAV4 -EV, according to the California laws. Shell bought Texaco in 2001 interest in the joint venture to allow a merger with Chevron Texaco. This ChevronTexaco was formed. In 2004, Shell was able to use in the U.S., the Texaco brand exclusive - in 2006 non-exclusive. ChevronTexaco acquired in July 2004 back non-exclusive rights to the Texaco brand name.

On April 4, 2005 ChevronTexaco took over the company Unocal for about 18 billion U.S. dollars. Shortly thereafter, he was on 9 May 2005 known again to bear the name Chevron from now on.

In Germany

Texaco acquired the majority of shares in 1966 at the German Petroleum Company ( DEA). From the DEA, the German Texaco AG, which operated a large network of filling stations in the Federal Republic. The Texaco dealer Präg opened in 1972 in Lechfeld, near Augsburg, the first self-service gas station in Europe. As RWE AG took over the German Texaco AG in 1988, began the gradual renaming the Texaco service stations in the DEA, today include the stations mainly to Shell.

Today ChevronTexaco sells in Germany under the brand name Texaco only engine oils.

In Austria

After 1945, the company built in the former American Occupation Zone in Austria, especially in the cities of Linz, Wels and Salzburg, but also in the surrounding areas, despite the still very low motorization rate in Austria at a filling station network. The Texaco gas stations at that time were the first stations in the modern sense in Austria and the American sales and service system was a sensation. Fuels were sold ( us-engl. for gasoline) and in gallons under the name American Gasoline. After the withdrawal of U.S. occupation troops in 1955 other companies took over the Texaco station, the name disappeared very quickly from the market.

Marketing
