Texas A&M University–Commerce

The Texas A & M University -Commerce ( TAMU -Commerce also called ) is a state university in commerce in the northeast of the U.S. state of Texas. With 8,677 students ( 2005) it is the second largest site of the Texas A & M University System. In addition to its main campus in Commerce, she has offices in Dallas and Mesquite.

History

The University was founded in 1889 as East Texas Normal College in Cooperstown. After the building had been destroyed by a fire in 1894, the college was moved to its present location. In 1917 the college was nationalized and renamed East Texas State Normal College. In 1962, she won the right to grant the doctorate and was renamed East Texas State University. With the elimination of the Texarkana campus in 1996, it is given its present name.

Sports

The sports teams of the TAMU -Commerce are called the Lions. She is a member of the Lone Star Conference.
