Text box

A text box or a text box (german text box or edit box) is a control a graphical user interface that can receive user input or program output in the form of a string. In most programming languages ​​and development environments distinction is made between single- and multi-line text fields. For multi-line text fields partially special controls are available that are mentioned, for example TextArea (as in HTML or Java) or Memo field (for example, in Microsoft Office or Delphi).

Text fields are used primarily in dialog boxes and web forms. In the latter, it can be used for example as an input field for search terms.
