Thai AirAsia

Thai AirAsia ( Thai: ไทย แอร์ เอเชีย ) is a Thai low-cost airline based in Bangkok and base at the airport Bangkok - Don Mueang.

History

Thai AirAsia was founded on 8 December 2003 as a joint venture between the Malaysian AirAsia or its founder Tony Fernandes and Thai Shin Corporation and took the inland air traffic on 13 January 2004.

In order to hold a license as a national airline in Thailand, 51 percent of the capital must come from Thai investors. The sale of a 1.88 - billion-dollar share package by the family of Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra to Temasek Holdings in Singapore in January 2006 brought this premise in danger. On 15 February 2006 it was announced that Asia Aviation, a registered Thai company, acquired the 50 percent stake in Shin Corporation. However, this itself was founded as a joint venture of Shin Corporation, which holds 49 percent of Asia Aviation. In May 2007, Thai AirAsia took over the company Asia Aviation. Thus Aviation Asia (50 %), AirAsia (49%) and the CEO of Thai AirAsia, Tassapon Bijleveld (1%), the majority shareholder of the company.

On October 1, 2012 Thai AirAsia moved its home base from Bangkok Suvarnabhumi to Bangkok - Don Mueang.
