Thank You (Dido song)

Thank You was the second single from Dido and was released in June 2001. The single was the biggest hit of their debut album No Angel. However, the song was only successful after rapper Eminem sampled had with his song Stan the song.

History

Dido wrote the song as a tribute to her friend Bob. It first appeared in 1998 on the soundtrack of the movie She loves him - she does not love him. The song was originally released as a single from Dido and only later added to the album No Angel.

The commercial breakthrough was the song only as a sample of the song Eminem - took as the basis for his hit Stan - which he had heard in the film. In the music video Dido played the pregnant girlfriend of the protagonist Stan and took over the vocal parts of her song Thank You. As a result, the song, the associated album, and the single Here With Me becoming bestsellers.

In the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 charts Thank You reached third place and thus was Dido's first and only single to the extent that could reach the top five in the United States. In the British UK Top 40 Thank You was third place one of the two singles of the album No Angel, which could reach the top five.
