The Beach (novel)

The beach ( original English title: The Beach ) is a novel by Alex Garland from the year 1996.

Action

The young Englishman Richard travels backpacking through Thailand. Looking for the singular adventure he leaves the crowded paths of mass tourism. When he finally discovered together with the French pair Etienne and Françoise a secret beach, he thinks he has found his paradise: white sand, turquoise waters, tropical jungle.

The Three mingle with the living there small community of " dropouts " and enjoy from now on the idyllic life on the beach. But what initially seems like heaven on earth, changes in the course of history into a nightmare ...

Filming

The novel was filmed in 2000 under the title The Beach by Danny Boyle, starring Leonardo DiCaprio in the role of Richard.
