The Big Issue

The Big Issue is an internationally known and successful British street newspaper that is written by professional journalists and sold mostly by homeless or formerly homeless, people. Founded in the project by A. John Bird and is now considered Ltd. ( GmbH). Revenues are the " Big Issue Foundation " dissipated, which is a registered charity. The aim of the Newspaper project is to enable homeless people to a legal income ( to help themselves ). The magazine is financed through advertising and sales.

National & International offshoot

Five different local editions are sold in the UK: The Big Issue (London), The Big Issue in the North (Manchester), The Big Issue Scotland (Glasgow ), The Big Issue South West ( Bristol) and The Big Issue Cymru / Wales ( Cardiff ).

In Los Angeles, a foundation is currently in preparation. In addition, there are four international projects, all of which were initiated by London:

• Australia - Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Adelaide
• South Africa - Johannesburg
• Namibia - Windhoek
• Japan

Criticism

Although the company is run as a non-profit organization, there were protests from the workers on the grounds of criticism of the funding, workload and procedures of management in the line of the journal.
