The Boo Radleys

The Boo Radleys were a British rock band that existed between 1988 and 1999 and was assigned to the shoegazing genre and later Britpop.

Band History

The Boo Radleys 1988 in Wallasey, England, Sice (actually Simon Rowbottom ) (vocals, guitar ), Martin Carr (guitar), Timothy Brown (bass) and Steve founded Hewitt (drums). The name comes from the book To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee; Boo Radley is the name of a mysterious and feared person, but which turns out to be a savior at the end. In 1990 her debut album, Ichabod and I, recalls the sound of the then-popular bands My Bloody Valentine and Dinosaur Jr.. Although it was not a commercial success, became aware of Rough Trade Records on them and took them under contract. At this time retired from drummer Steve Hewitt left the band and was replaced by Rob Cieka. Hewitt was later successful as the drummer of the band Placebo.

Immediately after the release of their EP Every Heaven 1991 had to file for bankruptcy, and the Boo Radleys were taken from Alan McGee's label Creation Records, Rough Trade. The following albums Everything 's Alright Forever ( 1992) and Giant Steps (1993 ) showed a development of the band away from the shoegazing style towards more sophisticated arrangements. The New Musical Express has named Giant Steps album of the year 1993. Spite of this recognition in the music press, the commercial success did not come.

This changed in 1995 with the release of their album Wake Up! and the resulting out-coupled single Wake Up Boo! who made ​​it to the top ten in the UK charts. Because of their melodic and style similar to the Beatles sounds, they were regarded as Britpop band, but which they refused because they did not want to be considered as part of a hype. 1996, therefore, appeared the follow-up album C'mon Kids, which included more experimental sounds. The 1998's album king continued this development, now also elements of soul, hip- hop and dance were included. Both albums were well received by critics, the commercial success of Wake Up! but the band could not reach far.

In 1999, the Boo Radleys dissolved; Martin Carr joined then solo as Brave Captain, and under this name released two solo albums. Sice brought a solo album under the name Egghead. Appeared in 2005, the Best -Of- Album Find the Way Out.
