The Cascades (band)

The Cascades was an American based in San Diego Doo -wop music group, which consisted 1962-1975.

History

The Cascades have their origin in the music group The Silver Strand, which in 1960 had their first appearances in San Diego. She called later in The Thunder Notes to, manager and lead singer was the guitarist John Gummoe. After the group had released some unnoticed records until 1961, it closed in 1962 a contract with the record company Valiant Records, a subcontractor from Warner Bros. With the occupation of John Gummoe ( lead singer and guitarist ), Eddy Snyder (keyboards ), Dave Stevens ( bass) Dave Wilson (saxophone ) and Dave Zabo (drums), they took the name the Cascades and in the summer of 1962 released a single with the title There's a Reason / Second Chance.

While this disc only on a regional attracted attention, came up with the second Cascades release already, the great success. In the fall of 1962, the single Rhythm of the Rain / Let Me Be had been taken under the direction of producer Phil Spector in the Gold Star Studios, Los Angeles. After its publication in November 1962, the title Rhythm of the Rain start on the Billboard Hot 100 on January 12, 1963, reached on March 9 with rank 3 its top listing. Overall, composed and lyrics written by lead singer John Gummoe song spent 16 weeks on the Hot 100 Internationally as Rhythm of the Rain became a hit. In Britain, he ended up in 5th place in Canada at rank 1, in New Zealand, he was listed as No. 2. It remained the only major success of the Cascades. Although published in 1962 three more titles in the Hot 100, of which The Last Leaf with space 60 received the best quote. After that came with Maybe the Rain Will Fall again until 1969 Cascade titles in the U.S. Charts ( 61 in Hot 100 ).

During the year 1963, Tony Grasso and new bassist Roy Lynch took over the keyboard. After three single releases and the LP Rhythm of the Rain ( catalog number 405) at Valiant changed The Cascades in the summer of 1963 to the record company RCA. Of the four produced until 1964 Singles only the title For Your Sweet Love ran some success ( number 86 on Hot 100 ). After the contract had expired at RCA during the year 1964, the Cascades, the record companies changed to 1969 in rapid succession, without leading to a countable success. John Gummoe left in 1967 after a long illness, the group and embarked on a solo career. From 1968, the group played in the occupation administration Lapano, Tony Grasso, Eddy Snyder and Dave Wilson. In -house production, the LP What Goes On Inside was released. In 1969, a two-year contract with UNI Records are completed, under which four singles and the LP Maybe the Rain Will published case. During this period the Cascades began increasingly to go on tour. In addition to a major U.S. tour they performed several times before stationed overseas U.S. soldiers. During a North Atlantic tour they came to Iceland, Greenland, Newfoundland and Labrador.

In February 1970 left gift Lapano and in November 1974 Tony Grasso the Cascades. The end of the group came in 1975.
