The Classics

The Classics were a white vocal group from Brooklyn, New York. They were founded in 1958 as they began to sing to her high school. Soon they had in their neighborhood a good reputation at dance events and in clubs. They made the music their profession after they had caught the attention of producer Jim Gribble. 1959 they recorded their debut single, " Cinderella", which reached the Hot 100 in the charts in the early 1960s. Other recordings were not as successful. It was not until 1963 when they recorded "Blue Moon" with Herb Lance as lead singer, they could be placed back in the charts. The song reached # 50 on the Billboard charts. Even more successful was her single " Till Then ", which could penetrate at number 20.

The group became known for her ballads, but also songs from the 1920s and 1930s were among their repertoire. The group broke up 1968auf, but the name was later revived by Emil Stucchio. In the 1990s, the group of Emil Stuccio, Al Contrera, Scott LaChance and Michael Paquette was. Later you Stuccio, Contrera, LaChance and Teresa McClean belonged to. Scott LaChance later left the group.

One reason that The Classics are rather unnoticed beyond the vocal group of fans should be that they have taken rarely more than a single at a record company.

For an overview of their work are published in the Collectable Records 2001 collection " Till Then: The Very Best of the Classics". It contains 20 songs from the period 1959 until the late 1960s.
